Full Description
1982. Building Survey.
Crudely built timber framed house with early features. Probably a later 16th century date though.
See report (S1) in file.
E. Rose (NAU), 15 October 1982.
December 1983. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description:
Former farmhouse. Late 16th-century. Six-bay rendered timber frame with corrugated asbestos roof. Two storeys. Scattered fenestration with diamond mullion windows (mainly renewed in original mortices) of 8 to 3 lights. Off-centre axial stack. Service doors with through passage to west. Principal beams of heavy scantling with wide chamfers and stepped stops. Three surviving queen post trusses.
Information from (S2).
Also noted in (S3).
High Common Cottage was also previously recorded as NHER 48532, which was erroneously located at High Common Farm (approximately 450m to the west). This error appears to have been due to an incorrect grid reference in the designation record, which placed it in the vicinity of High Common Farm. NHER 48532 now records a group of 19th-century farm buildings at High Common Farm.
P. Watkins (HES), 10 May 2016.
