Summary

A trackway or hollow way of probable medieval to post medieval date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data. The earthworks correspond with a trackway depicted on the Tithe Map, mirrored in a sparse line of trees depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map. The routeway appears to cut across other earthworks (NHER 70099), including possible enclosures and ridge and furrow, also thought to be of medieval to post medieval date, so a later, post medieval date for the hollow way is perhaps more likely. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2018), it is likely that the earthworks still survive.

The trackway or hollow way described above, which is of probable medieval to post medieval date, is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1-S3) and visualised lidar data (S4). It was mapped principally from the visualised lidar data. The earthworks correspond with a trackway depicted on the Tithe Map (S5; it is not known if this is the same map as that referred to above), and mirrored in a sparse line of trees depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S6). The routeway appears to cut across other earthworks (NHER 70099), including possible enclosures and ridge and furrow, also thought to be of medieval to post medieval date, so a later, post medieval date for the hollow way is perhaps more likely. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently, it is likely that the earthworks still survive.
