Summary

The earthworks of a hollow way or drove road, enclosures and ditches are visible in a field from the air and on the ground. Cottages are said to have stood to the north of the field, and as some of the earthworks converge onto a pond to the northwest, it has been suggested that this may have been a site where cattle could be halted and watered overnight, and the drovers given sustenance.

Map

6 May 1977.
Air photography by Aerial Archaeology Foundation.
Hollow way of track and adjacent enclosure ditches/drains.
D. Edwards (NAU), 18 October 1982.

November 2002.
Hollow way, enclosures and ditches, as shown on 1977 aerial photographs still showing good profiles. Some converge onto pond in northwest corner of field. This holds water. An excellent 'Drove Road' some 25m wide and fringed with old hedges on a raised bank runs east from Senter Farm along north boundary of field. Local knowledge states that cottages existed to north of the Drove Road. This could link with the pond as a site where cattle could be halted and watered overnight, and the drovers given sustenance.
H. Paterson (A&E), 13 November 2002.

Site extended to include 'Drove Road' mentioned above. (Original area the same less this road).
M. Horlock (NLA), 2 December 2002.
