Map

Prehistoric worked flints reportedly found to the the north-east of Warborough Hill during the 1930s.

Pre 1935. Stray Find.
It is noted in (S1) that prior to 1935 a number of prehistoric worked flint had been recovered in "fields on the north-east of Warborough Hill".

Found by J. E. Sainty :
1 prehistoric coarsely-flaked axe, "probably an agricultural implement rather than a real axe". Exhibited at a meeting of the Prehistoric Society of East Anglia in 1931 (S2). This fragmentary axe/adze was subsequently donated to the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1959.71) and was one of a number of objects identified as potentially Mesolithic by R. Jacobi.

Found by J. E. Sainty and F. H. Barclay:
A number of "coarse scrapers, all showing cortex…[which] may be Neolithic or Bronze Age in date". It is recorded in (S1) that a number of these were in the possession of F. H. Barclay in 1934: some may now be part of the collection of his finds held by the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1935.57).

Information from (S3).
It should be noted that the mapped extent of this record indicates only the approximate location in which these objects were probably recovered.

Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 8 October 2014.
