Summary

The Old Rose and Crown Farmhouse, in the village of Hardwick, is a timber-framed house which has been plastered and the ground floor faced in red brick in the 20th century. This two storey building has a steep gable-ended roof with modern tiles, and a brick chimney stack, and there are traces of a 17th century wall painting inside. The northeast end has been encased in an 18th century extension with a lower pitched pantile roof, and there is an addition of late 19th century date on the northeast end. This building is thought to date to the late 16th or early 17th century, and there is an adjacent barn which may be contemporary.
