Summary

Metal-detecting between 1982 and 2019 recovered prehistoric worked flints; late prehistoric, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; an undated gritstone quern fragment; Iron Age, Roman, and medieval coins; post-medieval jettons and tokens and a range of other, Late Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Late Bronze Age tanged knife; a Late Iron Age/Roman La Tène III brooch; Roman brooches, a harness mount, locking mechanism, pin and possible vessel mount; a Middle Saxon pin; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval mounts, a casket key, probable book mount, harness pendant and harness mount; a medieval/post-medieval purse bar, stainer and copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval probable harness mount, thimble and Jew's harp. The quantity of pottery recovered suggests that this is possibly the site of a Roman settlement.
