Summary

Fieldwalking in the 1980s identified a thick scatter of medieval pottery. Other finds recovered included Late Prehistoric, Late Saxon, Late Saxon/medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds and a fragment of lava quern. Sporadic metal-detecting between 2006 and 2015 recovered a range of undated and Late Iron Age/early Roman to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include undatable copper alloy rings, a mount and casting jet; Late Iron Age/early Roman brooches; Roman brooches, a bracelet fragment, harness pendant and copper alloy studs; Early Saxon brooches (including footplate from lead Cruciform brooch or model) and a buckle; Middle Saxon to medieval hooked tags; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; medieval brooches, horse-harness pendants, a horse-harness mount, harness hook, book clasp, scale-tang knife end cap, stirrup foot-rest and copper alloy seal matrix; medieval/post-medieval lead cloth seals, a scale-tang knife end cap, harness mount, 'paper-clip' vessel repair rivet and dagger scabbard chape and a post-medieval thimble, rotary key, pastry jigger and furniture fittings.
