Summary

Metal detecting in the early 1980s recovered a dispersed hoard of 300-400 Roman coins, mostly of Postumus, but including examples minted by Gallienus and Hostilian. Subsequent fieldwalking in the same area in 1983 recovered sherds of Roman and medieval pottery, briquetage, animal bones, shell fragments and fired clay. In addition, several roddons of unknown date were noted in the area. Metal-detecting between 2023 and 2025 recovered a post-medieval coin and a number of other metal objects, including a Roman brooch; a Saxon or medieval brooch fragment and a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy ring and copper alloy and lead mounts.
