Summary

Fenland fieldwalking here in 1983 recorded sherds of Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery. Subsequent metal detecting during 1993 recovered four medieval objects comprising a penny, a cut halfpenny, a buckle frame fragment and a lead weight.

Context 1.
Scatter of odd sherds of medieval pottery and two Late Saxon.

Context 2. Concentration at [1]. Under wheat so no obvious soil colour change. 70m north-to-south x 20m east-to-west at 2.4m (8ft) OD. Along a roddon for almost complete width of field.
Sparse to medium density medieval pottery.
Small amount post medieval.
Medium shell.
Sparse bone.
Sparse building rubble.

S.F.1. Medieval penny - see form.
S.F.2. Medieval cut halfpenny - see form.
S.F.3. Medieval buckle frame fragment with moulding, pin rest, three grooves in centre and moulded bar on each side. Engraved 'V' on reverse.
S.F.4. Hemispherical lead ?weight with roughly marked cross, each arm composed of two grooved lines on convex side.
