NHER 19033 (Find Spot record) - Roman pottery

22 March 1983. Sherds of Roman pottery on top of roddon. On this site is proved impossible to define the site with any accuracy. The field appears not to have been ploughed since the last cereal crop was taken off. This has given a flat weathered surface of grey brown colour, very similar to much of the pottery one might expect to find on such a site. The crop roots have also regenerated and straw has been left lying in the field. Less than a dozen sherds found
probably over an area less than 20m in diameter, but the field must be checked again when in better condition. Roddon low and height of site uncertain but probably about the same as those on other side of Smeeth Drain.
