Full Description
27 February 1983. Area cleared for bypass construction.
Possibly a small roddon joining a large one but this is not certain. Instead there may be a droveway. Scatter of sherds on trampled surface. Some medieval and probably some Roman. May equate with Roman sherds reported by Wisbech bypass fieldwalkers. Rest of field under well-established rapeseed crop. Nothing can be seen in it.
R. Silvester (NAU) March 1983.
May 1983. In area stripped for bypass construction.
Pits seen in stripped surface and in trenches and excavated. Late medieval material including pottery found.
More details to follow.
A. Gregory (NAU) 26 October 1983.
A. Johnson describes site as producing medieval greenglazed sherds. Unglazed jar with frilled base. 14th century iron spur (illustrated). Stamford ware jug or jar sherds and post medieval sherds. Reference to Late Saxon sherds seems to refer to the Stamford ware.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NAU) 27 October 1988.
