Summary

Fenland fieldwalking here during 1983 recovered sherds of Roman, Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds. A roddon of unknown date was also noted at this location.

9 March 1983.
Context 1. Odd medieval sherds over field.
Context 2 at 4771 1366. Sherds Roman pottery over area about 20m diameter. Not on obvious roddon. Field in poor condition. Deep ploughed but not harrowed. No other material apart from little bone. Height of 2.1m (7ft) OD.
Context 3 at 4768 1344. Medieval pottery on south side and to lesser extent on top of medium sized roddon. Not great density. Much bone, shell, tile etc but some of this may be associated with more modern debris on higher part of roddon adjacent to garden of West Walton Lewes. 50m x 30m at 2.7m (9ft) OD.
