Summary

Fenland fieldwalking in 1983 recovered sherds of medieval pottery and quantities of animal bone from the field here. Subsequent metal detecting in 1992 recovered an enamelled Roman handle fitting, a medieval lead ampulla, a medieval bronze harness pendant with fleur-de-lis decoration, a medieval bronze belt or harness mount in form of crowned head and a penny of Edward I.

At [1]. Roman enamelled fitting, probably part of handle fitting. Photograph taken.
At [2]. Medieval lead pilgrim flask or ampulla. Crown on one face, and flag on other. Probably Walsingham.
?Medieval bronze harness pendant, with fleur-de-lis.
At [3]. Medieval bronze belt or harness mount in form of crowned head, with rivet through forehead, see for compariosn the one from Harling, site NHER 6033. Probably 13th century.
Edward I penny long cross. Reverse: CIVITAS LONDON Class X, 1302-10.
