Summary

In 1983 several Roman pottery sherds were recovered from the site of a newly uprooted tree. It was also felt that a possible Roman saltern lay under the orchard located here.

26 March 1983. In former orchard bisected by new Wisbech bypass.
Context 1 at 4886 1053.
Newly uprooted tree outside roadline produced Samian sherd and indeterminate sherd of tile-like material on side of medium roddon.
Context 2 at 4884 1054.
Several sherds pot, at least one Roman, also close to roddon in machine scrape. Lack of material, but at least definite possibility that Roman saltern lies under orchard.
