Location

Civil Parish BRANCASTER, WEST NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

August 1982. 'Adjacent to Jolly Sailors Public House'.
Grid reference suggested by E. Rose (NAU) is only open land actually adjacent, if that is literally correct.
Roman sherds including colour coated, amphora handle, Samian Drag 38, white mortaria, coarse wares etc. Roof tile.
R.Trett (KLM), April 1983.

23 February 1989. Visit.
Site visited by D. Gurney (NAU) during excavation of sewage system for caravan park on this land. Area south and southeast of pub criss crossed by pipe trenches 60cm (2 foot) deep, but site totally barren of features or finds. Suggests that attribution of 1982 find may well be incorrect.
D. Gurney (NAU), 23 February 1989.

24th September 1997.
In fact mother of finder stated in telephone call to E. Rose (NLA) that the pottery was found on site NHER 1003, and that
finder lived next to the Jolly Sailors, rather than finding it there. See NHER 1003 for details but NHER 19120 is therefore retained only for D. Gurney's (NLA) observations.
