Summary

According to various sources a World War Two aeroplane crashed somewhere within woodland here. Initially it was believed to be a German plane but it was in fact an American B-17 Flying Fortress bomber which crashed on 11 July 1944 after breaking up in mid-air. However, a detailed search of the woods in 1983 failed to find any wreckage from this crash.
