Summary

In 1983 a number of ditches containing Roman, Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds were recorded here. Pottery types identified included Roman samian ware and rusticated ware, Late Saxon Thetford Ware and medieval Grimston Ware.

Early May 1983. On surface stripped for Wisbech bypass. Immediately south of Fengate Road.
Discrete area of archaeological features. Ditches and pits containing late Roman, Late Saxon and early medieval
sherds.
Rescue excavation and planning by Tony Johnson and Wisbech Museum Society.

Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval sherds in ditches and rectangles showing as cropmarks. Field system of ditches contains mostly Late Saxon-medieval sherds. Some residual Roman. Samian, Nene Valley, Icenian Rusticated and shell-gritted wares. Late Saxon Thetford. Medieval Grimston ware. Some coal from one feature.
