NHER 19430 (Monument record) - Prehistoric pot boilers in dyke of second marsh to west of Ferrygate Lane

Discovered Autumn 1982, when cleaning dyke with machine.
Pot boiler site about 16m spread of burnt flints on both sides of dyke at depth of about 1m below peat, above white marl.
Seen by J. Wymer (NAU) 8 August 1983.
Sample taken in plastic bag (450g) of burnt material thrown up beside dyke by machine.
Archaeological level not seen as below water.
Auger confirmed depth of burnt flint.

1996.
[1] adds to earlier report, as follows: large potboilers in centre of site, smaller ones around the edge; covered by a 'soapy' layer; small upright timbers also found (?around the edge), said to be hazel.
