Full Description
September 1983. Hill Farm, Broom Green.
Context 1. Found by contractors in yard at rear of farm house (in digging drain according to Breckland District Council)
Object of shelly limestone, circular, hollowed out, 180cm high, 300cm diameter, varying thickness of sides. Resembles mortar, but not a Dunning type, upper internal surface smooth as if used as mortar, but lower interior very rough and ragged, small hole has penetrated base.
Possibly an architectural fragment reused as mortar (A. Rogerson (NAU)).
Material possibly Paris Basin Limestone (A. Gregory, (NAU)).

Context 2 at TF 9881 2418 rapid fieldwalking to north and south of farm and outbuildings. Only 18th century and later material (same date as house). One bodysherd probably medieval unglazed. NCM.
