Summary

These rendered timber-framed cottages date to the 15th or 16th century. Originally there was a single cell house with gable-end jetty, a very fine moulded queen post roof and a smoke bay. This was doubled in length by an extension with a clasped purlin roof.

December 1983. Listed, Grade II.
Late 16th century lobby entrance house divided into two cottages. Rendered timber frame. Two storeys with attic south of stack only. Windows 18th century, doors original but repositioned. Blocked doorway opposite stack. High quality clasped purlin roof with windbracing south of stack. North of stack, first floor formerly open to roof, one fine queenpost truss with hollow-chamfered arched braces, and post-collar bracing.

Early 1997. Building Survey.
Survey by [1] resulted in a slightly different history - house of around 1500 with smoke bay, one cell with entrance in jettied north gable, represented by present bay beyond stack - has evidence of smoke bay. Extended in late 16th century with wave moulded beams and wave-ovolo window.
