Summary

This is the site of a Roman settlement, and there may have been a settlement here during the Iron Age. Prehistoric flints and pottery dating from the late prehistoric to the post medieval periods, and post medieval roof tile has been found during fieldwalking.

Flint flake (identified by J. Wymer (NAU) January 1985).
6 flint gritted sherds (one rim late Bronze Age or Iron Age, 1 sherd ditto, 4 prehistoric identified by A. Gregory (NAU) 1986.)
74 Roman greyware.
1 samian.
1 oxidised Roman.
1 Much Hadham ware.
3 medieval unglazed.
1 medieval glazed.
2 Late medieval glazed ?
9 glazed red earthenware.
4 late stoneware.
1 18th to 19h century glazed.
1 tin glazed earthenware.
Concentration of reduced pantile under removed hedge line to west.

(S2) records this as Site 90.
Iron Age pottery found on this site suggests that there may have been a settlement here during the Iron Age. There was certainly a settlement here during the Roman period.
