Summary

Fieldwalking here in 1983 and metal detecting in 1991 recovered a variety of objects. Finds included fragments of three late medieval book clasps, a coin from the reign of Henry VIII and sherds of medieval pottery.

27 March 1983. Fieldwalking on edge of newly sown arable.
One probable flat base with finger pushed indentations, grey sandy, probably medieval.
One base (?) light grey with reddish surface, probably medieval.
One strap handle, patch of green glaze, hard fired, sandwich fabric, reduced core, 15th to 16th century.

1991. Metal detecting.
Medieval bronze sheet bell, top part with loop made of strip.
Henry VIII half groat, Canterbury mint 1509-1526.
Late medieval (15th/16th century) book clasp with backplate. Terminal broken off at rivet-hole. Broader zone near hook. Engraved linear decoration.
15th/16th century terminal of book clasp, herringbone decoration with two punched holes and scalloped edge
15th/16th century book clasp (hinged part) with lug at one end (H-shaped) for counter plate, broken terminal at other end. Decorated with three large rings and dots
16th/17th century part of very large rowel gilt bronze, both faces stamped with crescent lines, six points of ten survive.
Two 16th century thimbles, with spiral of hand punched dots one has maker's mark at start of spiral.
Early post medieval button with integral loop (S1).
16th/17th century Nuremburg thimble with decorated border of leaf scrolls, rosettes and human faces.
17th century bronze swan's head and neck.
S-shaped fastener and loop ?17th century.
