Full Description
13 October 1983. Fenland fieldwalking.
Context 1: Scatter of sherds all over field, mainly medieval, one or two Roman. WPP AA (S1).
Context 2: 5197 1098. Small concentration Roman sherds on edge of medium sized roddon. Does not spread onto top of roddon, only on north side. Adjacent to filled in dyke and could be derived from earlier cleaning of this. Odd fragments of bone. Very poor conditions, rough ploughed and only part weathered. Bright sunlight. 20m diameter. WPP 2 (S2).
Context 3: 5195 1108. Small concentration Roman sherds on edge of virtually invisible roddon (much clearer from air). Also on edge of old dyke now infilled so material could have derived from this. Odd bone fragments. Very poor conditions. 30m x 15m. WPP 3 (S3).
For full details of wares, flint types etc see Fenland Folders (S4).
R. Silvester (NAU), 17 October 1983.
