Full Description
26 October 1983. Fenland fieldwalking. Well weathered winter wheat to 10cm high.
Context 1: scatter of medieval sherds over field.
Context 2: at 5187 1424 concentration of Roman pottery on confluence of roddons at 7-8 (2.1m to 2.4m) feet OD, the material spreading over top and down sides of silted watercourses. Material not as dense as on similar sites in
surrounding area. Sparse animal bone and shell. No soil discolouration noted but this may be a function of crop
conditions Material probably spreads into potato strip to south. Some of the material found at Context 2 has been reidentified as medieval pottery. WPP 9 (S1).
For full details of wares, flint types etc see Fenland Folders (S2).
