Summary

Fieldwalking in 1983 by the Fenland Survey recovered a small number of medieval and post medieval pottery sherds from across this area, as well as noting a small concentration of medieval pottery sherds and part of a medieval trackway. This concentration included a vast amount of post medieval material including sparse slag and metal, moderate quantities of animal bone and glass, and abundant pottery and brick. Metal detecting on this site recovered a medieval French jetton and an unidentifiable lead fragment.

7 November 1983. Fenland fieldwalking. Rough ploughed but well weathered field.
Context 1: odd sherds medieval pottery plus a bit of post medieval. WPP AL (S1).
Context 2 [1]: small concentration of medieval pottery on continuation of medieval droveway visible in 19670 to north - possible roddon. Vast amount post medieval material including sparse slag, metal, moderate quantities animal bone and glass, abundant pottery and brick. Possible that some slag etc could be medieval 30m north to south and 24m east to west at 7-8 feet (2.1 - 2.4m) OD. WPP 11 (S2).
