Summary

Fieldwalking in 1983 by the Fenland Survey recovered medieval pottery sherds from across this field, as well as noting a concentration of medieval pottery sherds. This concentration included a large amount of oyster shall and animal bone, as well as some very large bone pieces. Fired clay and slate was also recovered.

9 October 1983. Fenland fieldwalking. Field of winter wheat, well weathered.
Context 1: odd sherds medieval pottery over field. WPP AR (S1).
Context 2: at 5134 1454 concentration of medieval sherds (plus some post medieval material) at 7 feet (2.1m) OD, 45m north to south x 20m east to west. In addition, large amount oyster shell and animal bone, pieces being exceptionally large. Fired clay and slate fragments. Slate localised to northwest of concentration, shell and bone more dense to south. On west edge smallish roddon, medieval pot but no shell or bone spreading onto top. WPP 15 (S2).
