Summary

Fieldwalking in 1983 by the Fenland Survey recorded some medieval sherds from an area of raised ground set back from the road. This raised area may be a deliberate construction, as it was not thought to be a roddon. Modern baked/fired clay, bone and shell fragments, an post medival pottery sherds were also recovered here.

Map

15 November 1983. Fenland fieldwalking. Rough ploughed field with very large sods. Conditions far from ideal.
Some medieval sherds on raised ground set back from road. Does not appear to be a roddon in colour but does have a roddon-like tail. Does not link up with any other features and may be deliberate construction. Same hump has a lot of fairly modern baked clay/fired clay on surface, a little bone and shell, some 18th/19th century pottery. Nearly a dozen sherds late medieval/early post medieval wares found. WPP AW (S1).
For full details of wares, flint types etc see Fenland Folders (S2).
R. Silvester (NAU), 15 November 1983.
