Map

November 1983. Visit. North of Poplar Farm on line of removed field boundary. Found in ploughing and partly excavated.
Flint and concrete floor. Heavy flint nodules set in 'early' (before late 19th century) concrete 15 to 23cm (6 to 9 inches) thick, resting on a bed of unmortared flints set on natural sand. Covered by about one foot of topsoil. Only a tiny portion exposed. No finds in spoil or surrounding field except one red brick fleck.

Nothing marked here on (S1),1797,(S2),1820, (S3), 1840 or (S4), 1838.
Field boundaries on (S3) same as on 6 inch Ordnance Survey map, named as Home Close and Home Close Bottom. This boundary now removed.
Coastline identical on (S3) to present, but track to east of site is old coast road which ran partly on beach.
Poplar Farm is 18th century.
Identification not possible with such a small area exposed but presumably floor or foundation pad of some structure. Earlier 19th century?
E. Rose (NAU), 17 November 1983.
