Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered several concentrations of prehistoric burnt and worked flints and a Neolithic polished greenstone axehead. The worked flint had a blue grey patina.

2 February 1984. Fenland fieldwalking.
Quite a large island, weathered ploughed.

Context 1 .
General scatter of flint and pot boilers, but separate from Contexts 3 and 4.

Context 2 at 6441 8864.
Polished greenstone axe, 113mm x 54mm found on top of island a little distance from Contexts 3 and 4.

Context 3 at 6438 8869.
Spread 25 x 23m northeast to southwest of blue patinated flints with odd firecracked flints, just above inlet into island which is peat covered. Slope very gentle, mainly sandy loam with much gravel.

Context 4 at 6447 8866.
36 x 22m moderate scatter of grey blue patinated flint with only occasional fragment of firecracked flint. On gentle eastern slope of island consisting of light buff coloured sand with certain amount of gravel.
