Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered prehistoric burnt and worked flints. Two scatters of burnt flint were recorded, one a good example of a prehistoric burnt mound site.

27 February 1984. Fenland fieldwalking.
Sand island. Good, weathered and ploughed.

Context 1.
Odd flint scatter.

Context 2 at 6619 8783.
Scatter fire cracked flints about 55 x 5m. More frequent both ends of spread than in centre where only odd ones seen. One flint tool.

On south edge island spreading a little onto top, few in peat beyond island.

Context 3 at 6629 8787.
Dense scatter of firecracked flint 36 x 19m. Typical pot boiler site.

On south edge island; firecracked flints sparse on island itself but as the peat is reached they are abundant.
