Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 recovered a number of medieval pottery sherds from this field and evidence of a roddon. Concentrations of Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds, as well as bone and shell fragments and building debris were also noted.

7 March 1984. Well weathered plough soil.
Context 1: General scatter of medieval sherds, but mainly in east half near roddon and Contexts 2-4. Also one Thetford sherd.
Context 2: at 5151 1700. Concentration medieval sherds in corner field 27m x 25m, silt showing some discolouration; bone sparse to moderate, shell moderate. Great deal of post medieval building rubble, some post medieval pottery
etc. Also one Late Saxon St Neots sherd.
Context 3: at 5154 1698. Concentration 19 x 17m of medieval sherds; moderate bone shell moderate to abundant; building rubble and slag moderate, post medieval pot sparse. Plus seven Late Saxon St Neots, four Late Saxon Stamford. Whole shows as darker stain on top of rodham.
Context 4: at 5150 1696. Scatter medieval pottery 26 x 18m on top of roddon; a little staining. Bone sparse. Very little shell. Some post medieval pot and building debris. One Late Saxon St Neots sherd.
