Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 in advance of road construction work recovered a single Roman pottery sherd. Observation of further work in 1988 recorded no further archaeological finds or features.

26 March 1984. Fieldwork on bypass line (field 93). Whole field walked from road on south to north field boundary. At
6772 3386 - north part obscured by large amounts modern rubble. Walked in 25m blocks along proposed bypass line.
One Roman coarse sherd found at grid reference, 125-150m north of south field boundary.
In NCM from NAU fieldwork (P. Millington-Wallace).

August 1988. 7-10cm of toposil removed for constructing industrial premises.
Surface weathered. Strip 10m wide machined to natural along south boundary. No features or finds. Ploughsoil less than 30cm thick.
If any Roman activity in area it must be very slight.
