Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval sherds, along with a small number of Roman and Late Saxon sherds, mainly from the western part of the field. A concentration of medieval pottery sherds was also noted on the edge of the medieval trackway here, as well as post medieval and modern building material, and bone and shell fragments. Metal detecting in 1994 recovered a Roman coin and medieval and post medieval pottery sherds.

8 March 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking. Field of winter wheat.
Context 1: general scatter, medieval sherds mainly from west part field. Some of the material form Context 1 has been reidentified as Roman pottery and one sherd as Late Saxon. (S1).
Context 2: at 5132 1530, concentration medieval pottery 33 x 23m on edge drove. Also great deal more modern material particularly building rubble and post medieval pottery. Bone and shell moderate but may relate to later occupation. Much of scatter on raised area which could be simply redeposited material from dyke clearing. (S2).
