Map

19 March 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking. Well weathered plough soil.
Context 1: general scatter odd medieval sherds and some Late Saxon pottery sherds. WPA AM (S1).
Context 2: at 4974 1711. Concentration of medieval pot 55 x 20m, moderate with shell same and bone sparse to moderate. Post medieval pot and fired clay very very sparse. On top and sides of small rodhom and spreading a little beyond. Some Late Saxon pottery sherds. Apex of field is rather higher than rest and not solely due to rodham. Could be due to road dyke construction but still material of medieval date on top so conceivable some deliberate heightening in medieval period. WPA 9 (S2).
For full details of wares, flint types etc see Fenland Folders (S3).
R. Silvester (NAU), 19 March 1984.
