Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a few sherds of medieval pottery, and some Roman, from this field, more frequently towards the medieval drove. A concentration of medieval pottery sherds was also noted, in conjunction with post medieval pottery sherds, shell and bone fragmetns.

19 March 1984. Fenland Fieldwalking. Well weathered plough soil, a small part under strawberries.
Context 1: odd sherds medieval pottery, more frequent towards drove. Some of the material from Context 1 has been reidentified as Roman pottery. WPP EI (S1).
Context 2: at 5100 1595. Concentration medieval pottery, moderate post medieval pot sparse; shell and bone possibly sparse but strawberries limit recovery potential - remarkable amount of medieval pot found in these circumstances. Sparse building rubble. Site astride very pronounded roddon on edge of drove defined by Shire Drain. 50 x 41m. WPP 77 (S2).
