Summary

This aisled barn dates to the 16th century. It is timber-framed with later brick, weather boarding and a corrugated iron roof painted red. The roof has been hipped to the east and west in recent times and blocked diamond ventilation panels are visible on the brick skin. Interior has arch-braced ties and arcade plates, wind bracing and clasped purlins.

September 1984. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description:
Aisled barn, early 16th century.
Timber framed with later brick and weather boarding; iron roof. One storey exterior under swept roof with opposing cart doors. Roof hipped to the east and west in recent times. Five bays with aisle posts on brick piers with arched braces to tiebeams and wall plates. Struts to aisle walls also with arched braces to wall posts. Queenposts to collars, through purlins and diminished principals. Arched windbracing to purlins. Blocked diamond ventilation panels in brick skin.

Barn first reported to NAU as at 'East' Runcton by member of the public [1] in around 1978.

2003.
Owner states that there has been gale damage and some roof timbers have been replaced. He intends to send the originals for dendrochronology dating.

Inspection. March 2014
Timber-framed aisled barn. It probaly belongs to the second half of the 16th century as suggetsed by bridled scarf joints to arcade plates. Fine jowled principal posts and clasped purlin roof with reduced principal rafters. Wind bracing, ridge purlin and timber of heavy scantling. Detailed report and survey is to be undertaken.
