Summary

This was the site of a settlement and pottery works during the medieval period, which lay close to a medieval road. The settlement is first recorded in an early 15th century document. Field walking has recovered a fragment of a lava quern of unknown date, prehistoric flint implements, and pottery dating from the Roman to the post medieval periods.

1983 to 1986. Field, formerly Ordnance Survey 28, on south side avenue to site of Curds Hall.
Intensive field walking. Conditions generally good, except along edge of wood.
Large numbers of medieval sherds inclluding Glazed Grimston and early medieval wares of 'pot production site' type, and
semi-developed rimmed jars; Roman greywares and Samian sherd; post medieval stonewares; worked flints; Lava quern fragment.
