February 1984. At south end of George Street. Dug up in roadworks.
Fragments of large green-glazed Grimston ware jug (now reconstructed) remaining height 22cm, diameter at shoulder 18cm, at base 13cm, neck 8cm. Glazed exterior only to within 3 inches of bottom. Splayed base. Fabric buff, pink inside; 13 - 14th century (drawn). Fragment of second vessel, much pinker fabric, slightly brighter green partial glaze. Many sherds unglazed local type pottery, everted rim and blackened bodysherds.
