Summary

The site of a post medieval ice house serving nearby Kirby Bedon Hall. The ice house was destroyed in the 19th century to make way for a pond, now itself only visible as a slight depression in an arable field.

July 1984. Visited.
Site of icehouse. Served Kirby Bedon Hall (1604 and later) across the road to the south, but no immediate source of ice; river a considerable distance to the north. (S1) describes it as having had a flight of steps down to it. Destroyed some time in 19th century and site became a pond, as still marked on Ordnance Survey map but now only a depression in arable field.
