Summary

A Roman cosmetic palette or mortar with a bull's head at one end and a bird's head at the other. This example is the probably the largest and most elaborate cosmetic palette recorded in the country.

1976. Garden of 'Newhaven' (now No 3) Nursery Lane, Wilton.
At depth of 7.6cm to 10cm (3 to 4").
Grooved pendant (crescentic palette) with central loop with bird and bovine terminals. Largest and most elaborate of type recorded.

Finder, in letter to British Museum, describes his garden as 'backing onto the Roman site'. No finds behind house known to NCM/NAU.
