Summary

Concrete and iron bridge over ford.

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Location

Map sheet TF93NW
Civil Parish BARSHAM, NORTH NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

Footbridge.
R. R. Clarke (NCM) noted that the keystone bore the date 1709.
This is almost certainly a mistake for site NHER 16081, but this cannot be said with complete confidence as there may just possibly have been an identical bridge here.
At present there is only a modern concrete one.
See Norfolk Industrial Archaeology Society fiche (S1).
E. Rose (NCM) 30 April 1980.

CORRECTION
NIAS records:
This bridge has a concrete deck and concrete abutments with white painted iron railings.
The railings on all 3 bridges in Houghton St. Giles are marked 'Cornish Walsham, W.R.D.C. 1912' indicating that the bridges were all refitted at the same time. The 1709 reference to this bridge is a mistake for NHER 16081. The Tithe (S2) and 1st ed. O.S. (S3) maps have no reference to a bridge in this location.
See (S4)
This and NHER 55403 are almost identical.
W. Arnold (HES), 14 April 2011
