Summary

Fieldwalking undertaken in poor conditions in 1984 recovered a number of Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds at the eastern edge of this field. Systematic fieldwalking of an area to the north-west in 2002 recovered a number of additional finds, including an undatable prehistoric worked flint; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery; a Roman imbrex (roof tile); medieval roof tile fragments and a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe stem. Metal-detecting between 2017 and 2018 recovered Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins.

February 1984. Fieldwalking.
Found in fieldwalking in bad conditions, deep mud. Site of former strip fields 368 to 377 on (S1) now field west of Peddar's Way, east edge.
Sherds of 'Saxon Thetford Ware to 15th century Grimston'.

Parts of four fields subject to gridded field survey (see also NHER 37295, NHER 56699 and NHER 59938). Finds from Area 4 (post-medieval brick and tile fragments, calcinated flint, iron nails and shell not listed):
1 undatable prehistoric flint flake.
1 Iron Age pottery sherd.
6 Roman pottery sherds (3 greyware and 3 oxidised) and 1 imbrex.
3 ?Roman pottery sherds (1 grey, 2 oxidised).
14 medieval pottery sherds (1 medieval glazed, 3 medieval unglazed, 8 glazed Grimston and 2 unglazed Grimston) and 5 roof tile fragments.
4 post-medieval pottery sherds (4 glazed red earthenware) and 1 clay tobacco pipe stem.
