Summary

This is the site of a post medieval manor house, shown on a map of 1671. Roman pottery and a medieval harness pendant decorated with enamel have been found by metal detecting.

Site of Manor House.
Estate map of 1671 marks a 'rather splendid' house in this plot as 'The Manor of Hautboys Magna'.
It has been suggested in (S1) that this superceded Hautbois Castle.

No traces in field in 1983, only remains of two cottages and barn shown on (S2) and also appearing on 1671 map.
(S3) names field as Barn Pightle, shows ponds as now on green to north but since divided by railway.
Field located from (S3) by E. Rose (NAU), 16 October 1984.
