Summary

Field walking revealed a large spread of slag of unknown date, centred on an earthwork mound, which suggests that this site was used for metal working. Field walking and metal detecting also recovered prehistoric flints, pottery dating from the Roman to the post medieval periods, medieval brick, and a copper alloy colander of unknown date.

Large spread of slag over field centred on mound.
2 pot boiler sites in areas 15 and 36 (see plan in (S1)).
Extremely large numbers of sherds consisting of mixed Roman, medieval including Grimston and late medieval/early post medieval, and post medieval including glazed red earthenware and stoneware, medieval brick, lava fragments; also prehistoric flints.
