Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 by the Fenland Survey recovered a number of Roman pottery sherds from this field. A concentration of Roman pottery sherds, with some medieval sherds, was also noted within an area of darker silt.

23 October 1984. Weathered soil obscured by ploughed-in stubble.
Context 1: General scatter of Roman sherds to south. WPP EX (S1).
Context 2: at 5117 1232. Sparse scatter Roman pottery with slight trace of darker silt staining around. Only part of field has soil sufficiently weathered and site could continue further south. 29m north to south x 50m east to west. Some of the material form Context 2 has been reidentified as medieval pottery. WPP 87 (S2).
