NHER 21216 (Monument record) - Possible Iron Age to Roman settlement

28 February 1985. Fenland fieldwalking.
Fieldwalking in well weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1. MTW 55
Concentration of Iron Age pottery sparse to moderate, sparse bone, few flints, broken pebbles, many burnt. Also quite a bit of gravel. Shows as darker stain on chalk. 37m north to south x 35m at 2.5m OD.

Context 1 also northern area.
One end and side scraper.
Iron Age pottery.
Tiny Samian sherd.

Context 2. Southern area.
Pottery.
Grimston/Thetford ware, early medieval ware, medieval sherds including orange surface coloured shelly ware and green glazed Grimston.
Late medieval/transitional sherds.
Medieval bronze cauldron foot.
?Medieval fragment bronze pierced vessel/object.
Large lead glazed earthenware sherd.
Early post medieval white metal coated hooked tag, with openwork trefoil, perhaps off sword-belt, two rivet holes for attachment (iron rivets).
Early post medieval white metal coated harness or belt-slide, three lobes with scalloped edges. Bar on reverse made of two shanks bent to rectangle.
The two early post medieval objects are possibly from same object.
