Summary

This late 16th century house has 18th and 19th century additions and changes. It is built from red brick, two storeys high and has a pantile roof. Inside, there are elaborately moulded 16th century beams and a 19th century staircase with decorative plasterwork. The house was formerly a rectory.

Listing Description:
Former rectory. Late 16th century with an important early 19th century addition. Colour-washed red brick with black glazed pantiled roofs; addition of gault brick with slate roof. Lobby-entrance type house with an 18th century pile added to rear and an early 19th century facade block added to side. Original house is of two-storeys with attic, re-faced in the 18th century. Five bays of three- and two-light casement windows with metal glazing bars in segmental arched openings. Former doorway opposite off-centre axial stack. Steep-pitched roof hipped in the 18th century. Full-length verandah with a bell-base Lean-to roof. Early 19th century addition of 4 bays of sash windows with glazing bars. The taller ground floor windows rise from ground level. Gauged brick heads with elaborate blind boxes. Semi-circular headed window with glazing bars in staircase block at rear. Very elaborate 16th century double-ogee moulded beams in former study. Fine early 19th century sweeping staircase; roses, cornices and friezes in decorative plaster-work.
