Full Description
2 April 1985. Fieldwalking well weathered ploughsoil. Field divided into two halves:-
Context 1: centred 4877 1554 Southern half. WPP FR (S1).
Context 2: centred 4874 1580 Northern half. WPP FS (S2).
Both produced few medieval sherds only.
Context 3: long sinuous scatter crossing east side both halves, centred 4878 1566. Dispersed scatter Middle Saxon Ipswich ware and moderate quantities bone set on just discernable roddon system. Slight greyish tinge to soil
coincides with the core areas of artefact density. It spreads for nearly 450m north to south over two halves of field but extends into field to east (see NHER 19863) and probably to north also, collection by R. J. Silvester and A. Rogerson (NAU). Some of the material from Context 3 has been reidentified as medieval pottery and three sherds as Late Saxon. WPP 101 (S3).
