Summary

Fieldwalking in 1985 by the Fenland Survey recovered a general scatter of medieval pottery sherds from this field, as well as noting two concentrations of medieval pottery sherds. One of these included some bone and shell fragments, and a fair amount of post medieval material.

2 April 1985. Fieldwalking on well weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1: general scatter medieval sherds. WPP FK (S1)
Context 2: at 5083 1600. Scatter medieval sherds at back of house. Perhaps extension of Context 3 but predominance of unglazed coarse ware which contrasts. 26m north to south x 15m east to west. WPP FJ (S2).
Context 3: at 5082 1603. Concentration medieval pottery, sparse, some bone and shell and a fair amount of post medieval rubbish. On edge of drove and down side; full extent of site cannot be determined because of shed, track
etc. 35m north to south x 17m east to west at 2.5m OD. WPP 97 (S3).
