Summary

Fieldwalking in 1985 by the Fenland Survey recovered a few medieval pottery sherds from across this field. Metal detecting in 1993 recovered the upper part of an Early Saxon Group florid cruciform brooch.

1993. Found with metal detecting [1]. Context 2.
Upper part, including part of bow, of Early Saxon Group V florid cruciform brooch with integrally cast side knobs. Top-knob with trace of solder and of applied silver sheet. Large cast grooved 'X' in centre of headplate. Punched annulets. Multi-grooved bow. Double pin-lug with hint of iron spring-bar. Very abraded, battered and distorted, with oldish breaks. Some gilding survives in grooves. (S3).
